The baby shower invitations all looked traditional with little rattles, baby shoes, and babies in blue or pink blankets. There were two mothers-to-be who were going on and on about which one to choose. They wanted one that expressed their personality, their desire for something soft, cuddly and delicate. After listening to them go on for about 3 or 4 minutes, I politely asked them:

“Why don’t you make your own printable baby shower invitations?”

At first they looked at me like I was mad. Printable baby invitations? I explained to them that it wasn’t really that hard, and if they had a few weeks before they had to be mailed out to guests, they would have plenty of time to try and make things work. I want to share with you what I told them.

1. We first of all left the card section and went to the stationary section where they had scrap booking material.  The Super Targets have a good selection of baby ideas, however my first choice is a real scrap booking store.  They will have at least 10 times the selection of paper, ribbons, decorations, etc. So, we began matching colors of paper and ribbons.

2. I told them about how they might want to layer their papers.  Usually the light colored paper will have the printing on it.  They would need to choose a font and a color of ink that they could print out on their printer at home. Then, they could create a heavier stock of paper for the back of the invitation, and maybe make a doorway, window, or some type of a flap in another paper to open up to reveal the words on the invitation.

3. The next thing was getting the different decorations. There were cute pink and ivory colored ribbons, baby rattles, shoes, cribs, onesies, and many other items.  Some were stick on items, others were little plastic pieces that could be tied on.

4. The next thing is some double stick tape, maybe some glue stick or hot glue for the decorations.  Assemble one, and repeat for all the other cards.

Printable baby shower invitations are not hard at all.  You just need the time to do them.  The more time you have the more time you have to shop for the right materials and to be creative. If you don’t leave yourself much time you aren’t going to have the time to really design and create what you want. And, if you make a mistake or don’t like how they are coming together, you have time to go back to the store, return what you didn’t use, and replace it with something you do like.

These two ladies were thrilled.  They left Target with a few items to put together and then were going to head down to the scrapbook store for more stuff.

If you watch the video above, you will see that creating your own printable baby shower invitations is not hard at all, it can be A LOT of fun, and ultimately you will create something that expresses your personality and love you have for your new baby.
